Out of the Shadows
Nights of chamber music at Townley Hall have a tendency to be electric. There’s an energy that builds each time audiences and artists meet in this space, growing through the evening as the moon rises. The closing night programme of this summer’s festival makes the most of this naturally occurring phenomenon with a programme of music you won’t want to miss.
The evening starts out with Benjamin Britten’s brilliant song cycle “On This Island” which sets poems by W.H.Auden. This is followed by a poignant duo for violin and cello by the British composer Libby Croad and Ernest Chausson’s Chanson perpétuelle for soprano and piano quintet.
The second half is filled with Dvorak’s glorious Piano Quintet in A major, a favorite among musicians and audiences alike.
For those looking to make the most of their visit to Townley, we also welcome you to attend Jennifer Horgan’s poetry reading at 7pm. Entry to the poetry reading is included in the price of this evening concert ticket.
Refreshments will be available at the bar.
