Martin Dyar is the 2014 Boyne Music Festival poet in residence. He is a graduate of NUI Galway and Trinity College Dublin. Martin’s poetry has received a number of honours, including the Patrick Kavanagh Poetry Award in 2009, and the Strokestown International Poetry Award in 2001. In 2010 he was selected for the Poetry Ireland Introductions Series. He has also been the recipient of two Irish Arts Council Literature Bursary Awards.
Supported by Dublin UNESCO City of Literature and Culture Ireland, this year Martin was a writer in residence at the International Writing Program at the University of Iowa. His debut collection, Maiden Names, published by Arlen House, has been described by the poet Bernard O’Donoghue as ‘a thrilling new development in Irish poetry.’ Martin is also the author of a play, Tom Loves a Lord, about the life and work of the nineteenth century Irish poet and musician Thomas Moore.
