Seamus Heaney, Global Nature Poet
A Talk by Poet Martin Dyar
When Seamus Heaney passed away in August last year, Martin Dyar was a writer in residence at the International Writing Program at the University of Iowa, a place Heaney had visited many times and which he described as ‘a nexus of friendship and a nexus of excellence.’ Approaching the first anniversary of Heaney’s death, this talk will include a reflection on the international momentousness of the great poet’s passing, personal reflections on Heaney’s giftedness and generosity, along with a critical consideration of a selection of individual poems in celebration of Heaney’s standing as a poet of the natural world. The talk will be followed by readings of a number of Heaney poems by members of the Boyne Music Festival community.
Entrance to this talk is included in the purchase of a Saturday Evening Concert ticket.
